Duel Information:

Kanan is basically a collector of sword themed Decks, a hobby that has been aided by the surprisingly deep allowance of her friend Kamala. But off the top of my head, she runs X-Sabers, Poker Knight and the Fleur strategy.

PB and/or Description:

Literally she's "Kanan the Swordmaiden", an elementary school age version of Kanan.

For additional expressiveness, despite the fact I like she's a stoic, I'll be using Tomoe Hotaru from the Sailor Moon manga as a 'good enough' approximate.

Personality:

Kanan's basically a fairly stoic girl with a strong poker face. Not unfeeling, just she doesn't wear her emotions on her sleeve. But she's constantly driven by a lot of conflicts between her duty as a swordsman, a member of the Temple Guard of the Mandala Manticore, and a fairly normal tween girl (who will have a multi millennia long life span), under her fairly stoic face.

Basically to explain her emotional divides here:
● She is trained to be a master swordwoman, a skill taught by her family for countless centuries, and she has a sense of pride about wanting to being a master of the sword. Even if she's awkward emotionally about being a swordmaster, and unsure if she WANTS to be a master of swords, and yet she still desires to be the best. This further follows to her desire to be a Knight of the Uncrowned Queen, the unfulfilled version of her friend Kamala. She thinks it's weird her friend is a possible quasi-divine entity, but she still thinks she should help her friend.

● She's a member of the Temple of the Mandala Manticore, a goddess of 'evil'. Her family and the temple's order do not worship the manticore, as it represents the 'cruelty' of luck and dreams, but there are Mysteries believed to be related to The World of Man and the Goddess Da Eiza. Basically, she's a keeper of sacred knowledge, rather than actively religious, but a lot of that leads to issues as the sacred knowledge points, again, to her friend Kamala.

● She's a tween/early teenage girl who wants to go out on an ice cream date with her friend Kamala when they get into middle school, but is awkward because Kamala seems to be SUPER oblivious that a non-insignificant amount of her friend group, including Kanan herself, are Duel Spirit children who were enrolled at Duel Academy Domino after the dimensional shift caused caused by Vidya.

On practical positions: She's a huge huge fan of swords, magical girl and idol shows, she likes soccer and wrestling and fencing. Not as popular as Kamala, she is popular as Duel Academy Domino for being a cool beauty tomboy who's good at sports. As far as grades in more book learning, they're weaker, as she has no interest in English or Japanese history. But she is good at math, mythology and religion/religious theory. (Kamala would fail her math classes without her)

History:

Kanan is the youngest (or one of the youngest) family member(s) of a family line of swordswomen, who are all named Kanan.

Her mother, Kanan, is a security guard at Ahe-Go-Rock Prison.
Her aunt is the legendary Kanan the Swordmistress, an adventurer of great renown.
She has a Gyaru cousin named Kanan, with the title of "Sword Diva", and is a fashionista living in Hero City.

Yes, this is terribly confusing at family reunions.

She's also a member of the Temple of the Mandala Manticore, a mystery temple that holds sacred knowledge concerning an evil goddess that represents the cruelty of luck and dreams. Again, the goddess is not worshiped, it is considered profane and dangerous to offer the goddess worship or tribute, as she's a group of Chthonic Goddesses known as the Ladies of the Rose Crown, that represent ideological concepts such as Greed, Envy, Ambition, etc. And one of their core mysteries is prophecy of the "The Uncrowned Queen of the Bloody Moon", a terrifying messianic demi-goddess that the Ladies of the Rose Crown exist to usher into the world, and who will represent The End of the Current Age of Man, along with the birth of the Metatron of the Crimson Extinction.

Nominally, most of this is just theological debate between the scholars of the temple, which her family has guarded throughout history. (It is not an organized religion, you Do Not Worship The Ladies of the Rose Crown). And then the strangest thing happened, the Metatron of the Crimson Extinction, who was a theological possibility heavily debated by scholars, experts and theologians, uh. Happened. And this started making people nervous about The Uncrowned Queen mystery. Combined with her mother, despite being a Cop, being an optimist, had Kanan go to school in Domino, living with her Aunt Kanan, who is a Patissiere in Domino.

Basically, Kanan was to learn how humans perceive the world and to figure out if the Uncrowned Queen prophecies had any merit. ... And became friends with Kiriya Kamala. Who. Is the unfulfilled version of "The Uncrowned Queen of the Bloody Moon". ... And then realized her friend (and minor crush) was The Uncrowned Queen. Probably. ... And it's been A Lot for her to deal with. She's committed herself to helping Kamala the best she can, and to make sure if her friend is quite literally a future Demi-God(?), to keep her grounded and to protect her as a future Knight.

Though to be honest, she just wants to hang out with her friends Kamala and Artemis, and finds all the religious and theological and metaphysical ideas involved annoying. But life comes at you fast.
